href="http://home.isr.umich.edu/files/2013/05/GenX_Vol2Iss3_final.pdf">Michigan study reveals. According to a new study conducted by the University of Michigan, Gen Xers actively endorse lifelong education.

In fact, 1 in every 10 Gen Xers seek to continue their formal education by enrolling in university courses. Rather impressively, 5 in 10 Generation X members would continue their education through various channels, including e-courses, professional workshops and other learning-promiting activities. Apparently, the need for continuous self-growth is something Generation X takes very seriously.

Learning as a life-long commitment

Another victory for Generation X is that it’s the first generation to accumulatively earn more higher education degrees that any other generation. Of course technology and growth might have a hand in this improvement, but nonetheless, the tendency for lifelong learning is irrefutable.

The obsession and love of information gathering is a wider reflection of our new social model, the study emphasized. With the ever-increasing information-based economy of the 21st century, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that today’s adults are seeking more efficient ways to keep up with all the developments going on.

If there’s one thing we can take from this revealing study is that Millennials and the generations to come have a great example to look up to. Education and lifelong learning is a theoretically inexhaustible skill we can continue developing throughout our lives.

Given of course we find the willpower to resist yet another cat video, or another fail compilation one. The Internet might be an enormous distraction from our goals and aspirations, but it can also be a potent tool for our improvement and learning. It’s up to us to choose wisely. Take it from the Gen Xers, they seem to know how to do it.

Curb Your Overeating Habits, Five Foolproof Ways to Slim Down

Health

Dieting

Summer
<guid

Overeating can be terribly sabotage any slimming effort, so how do you control overeating?

How do you go from mindless, large portions of food to a more conscious, smaller and frequent meals without starving yourself to death all the while?

Conscious Eating

People play havoc with their dieting because they eat mindlessly or as part of multitasking. If you’re eating, just do that. Savor each bite, eat slowly, eat mindfully. This way you get to feed your senses as well as your body. The result, you tend to eat less and be satisfied more.

Be the Portion Police

Color Your Plates Beautiful

Gradually cut down your serving portions. Using smaller plates is a great trick, in fooling your brain you’re eating as usual. Don’t drastically reduce your calorie intake, it will be counteractive as it will increase your cravings, making it easier for you to give in.

Be choosy

See food as a long term investment for your health and body. When you regard food as a nutritional, nurturing daily need you will think twice before you eat half a strawberry pie. Choose organic, non-processed foods. Avoid sugar and salt-laden snacks. See your body thank you.

Color Me Pretty

Boring, uninspiring meals tend to make us eat more. Fun, colorful ones feast our eyes as much as our stomach. Include bright colored veggies and fruit into your meals. Make them exciting! A multicolored, lively meal satisfies you mentally and then nutritionally.

What’s your foolproof trick in curbing your overeating habits? How are you trying to get ready for the beach? href="http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/23545598">control study with older adults has been conducted by renowned researchers that looked into how activity, both physical and mental might prevent cognitive aging.

The paper is published at the Jama Internal Medicine and it illustrates that when older people engage in mild physical activity and are provided reasonable amounts of cognitive stimuli they can not only prevent cognitive deterioration, but rather improve their cognitive function as well. This, according to the researchers is especially true when mental and physical activity are combined.

The study involved older adults with average age being 73 and their profile was mainly that they’ve already were experiencing some kind of cognitive deterioration. The subjects were divided in four different groups, where different combinations of physical and mental stimuli were provided. The results were rather promising; all subject with no exception had some kind of cognitive improvement in the time the short trial was carried out.

One key finding the researchers emphasized is that the type of mental or physical activity is not that important, what really matters is that the otherwise inactive adult partakes in any physical and mental activity. This alone is enough in improving their overall cognitive function.

This study has various, positive propositions, for instance mental activity and physical activity can as well be used per-emptively. People can prevent and why not, completely thwart brain aging simply by engaging in mild physical exercise and by never stopping to expand their knowledge and mental activity.

The Key For Succeeding in Online Course Taking

Education

E-learning

Success

before.Today we’re discussing a different aspect of MOOCs; how effective these really are in teaching people something. Do people actually retain any knowledge delivered in virtual classrooms and lectures? Or is it really a waste of time>

A new Harvard study conducted by top psychology professors looked into how short and frequent test-taking might promote learning when this is virtual. The rationale behind this experiment was to discover new techniques that can enhance the learning performance of online learners, as the conventional techniques used in real-time classroom settings, don’t apply to virtual learning environments.

In one part of the experiment, a lecture was paused three times in order to ask students whether they’ve mind-wandered during the lecture. Almost one in two students responded yes. Now the fact that one in two students was mind-wandering during a lecture is a significantly worrying number that compromises student success.

How to succeed in online course taking

This first experiment needless to say, confirmed the researchers’ concern; students’ extensively lack focus when watching online lectures, contributes in poor learning outcomes.

In the second part of their experiment, the researchers split a lecture into five-minute shorter ones and in between this short lectures, students were asked to take a short test and apply the knowledge just received. The controlled group was solving math problems instead. This was apply to the people in the first part of the experiment as well.

The results showed that the students tested on the material of the lecture tended to do better in terms of performance and their mind-wandering was significantly limited with this seemingly simple technique.

Further research is needed to explore aspects this experiment failed to take into account, but the findings are indeed promising in giving us insights as to how to improve virtual learning outcomes.

Because Giving Is Always Noble – How To Get Involved With a Cause

Fashion & Lifestyle

Causes

Volunteering
<guid

Here are some to get you started!

Support financially or by becoming an ad hoc basis volunteer for a large charity or organization. This is the most common and popular way of tangibly supporting a cause you care about. But wait there’s more!

Fundraising. This is successful when done at a local level. Even if you live in the Big Apple, you can still fund-raise for your neighbourhood. Organize it don’t just participate or contribute. The excitement and thrill of finally giving the money to the cause/person you’ve chosen will be a tingling, one of a kind, fulfilling experience.

Make a buzz. Ok so you’re not really the manager type of person. No worries, there are plenty of other ways to support your cause. Why not focus on its media exposure? You can be in charge of an organization’s media kit, or press release writing. Getting the word out there is as important as the whole organizing thing. Because, if the world doesn’t know, what the use of it?

Kickstarters and other similar project funding websites offer great venues for promoting your fundraising event. This weekend will be dedicated in setting up your project. Let the fun-ding begin!

Make insane use of your skills or experience that a charity might need or find useful for their actions. A language you are fluent in, your impeccable negotiating or lobbying skills could contribute a lot in the success of an organization.

Think out of the box, if a cause you believe in doesn’t share your ideas, develop your own, or let them know your brilliant ideas.

Become a Youtube Star – Create and Edit Movies like a Pro

Technology

Entertainment

Online

Software

Youtube
<guid

You don’t however, have to be taken by surprise, if your lover feels like they want to explore other possibilities, there are telltale signs you are subtly given. Whether you’re going to do something about it it’s entirely up to you!

Loss of Intimacy – This is a sign of the unwillingness to regain the warmth, passion and nurture, your relationship used to feed upon

Loss of Communication – You talk but you don’t communicate, you argue, you fight, but you don’t listen to each other any longer

Loss of Sexual Drive –Excuses, excuses, a low libido is not always physiological or ”a phase”, it could stem from loss of sexual interest.

Loss of Intimacy

Ungrounded fighting – Bickering over trivial issues, getting angry over ridiculous things you’d otherwise laugh about and move on.

Frequent Fighting –Fighting seems to be your new favorite hobby. The terrifying thing is that one of the two is actually enjoying it.

Bad Times Outnumber the Good ones – You hardly remember feeling happy, at ease or loved in the presence of your partner.

Indifference towards yourself – They become obsessed with a new or old hobby, a new friend, but never with you. You’re always excluded or the last to be invited in.

Too much self-indulgence – A sudden interest in pampering and prettifying themselves and an inexplicable happiness might be signs of their love being transferred towards another person.

These 8 signs can be little predictors of what’s about to happen. If you feel that more than half of this list applies to your relationship, it’s better to start talking, your relationship might be saveable. Take however, into consideration that each relationship gets through rough patches from time to time, so don’t get obsessed over it if there are no tangible or enough signs to base your assumptions on.

How Yoga Benefits Young Children

Education

Children

Yoga
<guid
