Head to Salads and Sangria Festival at Barcelos for Pleasuring Your Exotic Taste buds!

Khan Market — located in the heart of the city, houses a wide variety of stores — including modern showrooms of well known brands, jewelry, bookstores and some of the best restaurants of the city. Ranging from American to Thai ,Mexican to Malaysian, Lebanese to Indian, you can find every possible cuisine available at one restaurant or the other. One such restaurant is Barcelos.

For the uninformed, Barcelos is a South African restaurant serving mouth-watering Portuguese cuisine. The restaurant created a buzz in the town when it launched the much promoted black and red burgers recently. Now, Barcelos is back with its novel attempt of launching a Sangria bar — with 21 options (yes! twenty one) — the first ever in India. To go along with these drinks, four salads are also being offered as a part of the ‘Salads & Sangria’ festival. As an invitee to the food blogger’s meet arranged by Barcelos, I got to treat my taste buds with
a few of these delicious sangrias and salads. Both, white wine and red wine sangrias are up for
grabs in the festival.

The ones I could lay my hands on were:

1. White wine sangria with apple and watermelon.

2. White wine sangria with cucumber and lemon

3. Red wine sangria with Orange and apple

4. Rosemary and pomegranate sangria

5. White lemongrass sangria

6. Ginger and clove sangria

7. Mango and chilly sangria

Evident from the list above, there is a wide variety of drinks which will appeal to different tastebuds. For the people who love their drinks a little sweet, I suggest picking up a white wine sangria. The taste of apple infused
with the spirit, and the aroma of watermelon on top of that makes for a perfect combination. If you like adding a tangy tinge to your drink, the cucumber and lemon sangria is perfect. The refreshing aroma of cucumber along with the tanginess of lime will not disappoint you. The taste and aroma of rosemary and lemongrass infused with the spirit makes for an exotic drink. So, if you like your drink exotic, you will find these two sangrias appealing.

Red Wine Sangria with Apple and Orange

The festival has something for people with an unusual taste as well. The ‘Mango and Chilly sangria’ is not for the faint hearted. Each sip of this drink is laden with mild sweetness of the mango and a punch of red chilly. On similar lines, the aroma of clove and the tangy ginger make for a rather intense combination. Priced at Rs. 255 a glass, Barcelos gives you a reason to visit them and try as many flavors as you can.

Moving on to the salads, vegetarians have a reason to rejoice since there are 3 vegetarian salads and 1 non-vegetarian salad being offered — Grilled Orange & Watermelon Salad, Capris Salad, Fattoush and Pear & Chicken Salad. Fattoush Salad and Pear & Chicken Salad.

Fattoush Salad

All the salads come loaded with lettuce, caramelized walnuts & almonds and intelligently chosen sauces to compliment the ingredients of the salads. My pick is Grilled Orange Watermelon salad. Loaded with red and green lettuce, perfectly grilled watermelon and orange thrown in, sprinkled with roasted melon seeds and caramelized walnuts & almonds, and the addition of Feta cheese cubes make this salad a must try for all the salad lovers.

Another favorite is the Capris. Served with Presto and Sweet Onion sauce, well cooked tomato and zucchini slices and lettuce — the salad is a complete dish in itself.

Barcelos is offering the combination of a salad and a sangria at Rs. 375 for this festival. These reasonably priced combos promise a delectable and salubrious experience. The soothing lounge music and earthy shades of the restaurant’s interiors add up to this wonderful episode.

So, step into Barcelos and luxuriate in this world of ‘Sangrias & Salads’!
