6 Ways How You Can Gain Respect In Your Relationship

Power plays an important role in all relationships and romantic relationship is not too far from it too. Either you have a relation ship where one of you has more power or you have a relationship where power is equally distributed. Many times, this power shifts from one person to another. When it was the start of your relationship, it felt like both of you had equal power, but with time, the power shifted to one person.

Respect comes with power, so it is important to maintain equal power between the couple. So how can you come back on the track and set sail of your boat towards a more calm and peaceful sea?

Here’s how:

1. Speak up

Speak your mind, if you are not going to speak for yourself, no one else would. Make your voice heard in the relationship. Let them know what you want or what you feel. Your partner obviously cannot read your mind, so tell them what you want. Words will give you power.

2. Be independent

Being independent does not mean that you do not need your partner! It means that you are capable enough to take care of yourself just fine. Being too much dependent on your partner will make them have more power so try to be independent to gain respect and equalise things.

3. Boundaries

You need to have some boundaries in your relationship. Everyone has some morals and rules that you would not want crossing, so, maintain healthy boundaries. Draw the line where things start to get uncomfortable and be firm about it, they will understand because they too would have the same problem with a few other things.

4. Give and take

All the things in this world are ‘give and take’. If you want respect, you need to give respect too. They will treat you the way you treat them, give them love, they will give you love, show them respect, they will do the same. So it mostly depends on you.

5. Do not settle

Be confident enough to know what you deserve, there is nothing more appealing than a person who knows what they want. If your partner knows that they can get away with anything they do, then respect has already gone out the window!

6. Respect yourself

If you do not respect yourself, no one else would respect you! How you talk about yourself, how you view yourself, how you treat yourself, all of this affects how others would respect you.
