Switch on your television on any weekend night and you see a different reality shows on every Indian entertainment channel. Well, they are different, yet they are the same! We point out a few things typical about our Indian reality shows. Read on!

1. Pet phrases used by the judges

‘Perfect’ by Madhuri Dixit, ‘This is it’ by Remo D’souza, ‘Super se upar’ by Shilpa Shetty- you know exactly what i am talking about. Every judge on the show has his/her pet phrase to use when a contestant puts up a good performance. Listening to these week after week, sometimes becomes an earsore.

2. Brewing romance between co-contestants

Gauhar Khan and Kushal Tandan or Sara Khan and Ali Merchant( who got married during their stay in the Big Boss house)- Amidst their performance rehearsals and shooting, cupid’s arrow strikes them and contestants find their soulmates .Their brewing romance and new-found love not only gives content to the show but also gives news channels their next Breaking news. Unfortunately, their romance is short lived and ends with the show.

3. Prolonged suspense before any announcement

When the anchor is about to announce the winner of the show or the eliminated contestant of the week- Ah! You know you can go to the kitchen, drink a glass of water, munch on your favorite snack and still be back in time before the anchor finally announces the name.

4. Life histories of participants

For some reason that only the show producers understand, it is important for the viewers to know the life histories of the participants. They take you to take their hometowns and enlighten you about their important life incidents.

5. Fake Dramas by the judges

This has become every reality show’s favorite TRP booster. After expressing fake displeasure over a contestant’s or an anchor’s humored act or remark, the judge leaves the show’s set. It is only after the commercial break that you get to know that the whole drama was made up and the judge was in a cheerful mood to play a mischievous prank!
