It’s that time of the year when you finish your school and head on a new journey. You become independent and travel to college all by yourself, you make new friends, learn new things, manage your expenses and enjoy the freedom. But thanks to the colorful world of Indian Cinema, we often step in college with a few pre-conceived notions. Here are a certain myths you need to let go off before you start with your college life.
1) Flirtatious Lecturers:
If you think there’s gonna be some ‘Miss Braganza’ walking around the college corridors in mini skirts with other male lecturers trying to hit on her, then my friends, you’re mistaken! The professors in all top notch universities are far more disciplined to engage in all these filmy shenanigans. They don’t roam around trying to impress teachers in short dresses and backless blouses by singing old Bollywood songs. It doesn’t necessarily mean that they aren’t cool but they have their own way of displaying the same!
2) Shout Out on Getting In A Relationship:
Remember watching Shahid Kapoor’s debut movie and imagining yourself dancing with him on ‘Love Love Love Karo’? Well, guess what? It will always only remain a wild piece of your imagination! While getting into a relationship is on most minds, you shouldn’t really fabricate ideas of serenading songs for your beloved with violins in the background. You don’t go around singing and dancing all over your college to declare that you’ve found love! If you don’t want to be expelled that is! 😛
3) Inviting Entire College To Family Functions:
If you think you’re going to fly for your sibling’s destination wedding with the whole of college with you, then you definitely need to cut ties with Bollywood! I mean who takes all his professors and batch mates for a family function to a far fledged exotic location? So if you were planning any of those royal wedding get together, then drop it! Because you don’t ever go on making friends with the entire college! It’s only a few who fall in your close bunch of friends and go on for a very long time!
4) Welcome Songs For Good Looking Guys/Girls:
We all remember how the whole of St. Teresa College went bonkers on the entry of Sidharth Malhotra in the movie, ‘Student Of The Year’. The students danced to the tunes of ‘Kukkad Kamaal Da’ and we too tapped our feet along with them! While the girls went crazy and celebrated by dancing in short night dresses, the guys too were more than happy to welcome the handsome hunk. Even in the 2003 flick, ‘Ishq Vishk’, Shenaz Treasury’s character saw a similar welcome because she was supposedly the hottest girl of college. But in reality, none of this really happens. Nobody really cares when you come or go. And even if they do, they definitely don’t celebrate the same with some hep dance number!
5) Prom Nights:
Now this is something we’ve all imagined! Our crush asking us out to go on prom with him/her and then we enter this lavish pub in colour co-ordinated clothes and dance in centre with some random dancers in the background! Well, pomp goes the prom bubble! While there are certain events that keep taking place here and there, there isn’t really anything like the peppy prom that you see in Karan Johar’s movies!
6) Good- for- Nothing Teachers:
If you think that you’re going to find someone like ‘Professor Rasa’i from ‘Main Hoon Na’ who goes around spitting on children or someone like ‘Professor Kakkar’ who comes to college solely for knitting sweaters and flirting with young boys or a principal who is forgetful of all the rules he himself made, then you really need to slow down the cogs and wheels of your imaginative brain! Because this is never happening! College professors, irrespective of their ages are more smart than we think! It’s not a chord’s play to fool them with some baseless excuses and get over a late submission. They can really grill you into doing things their way because they have all your internal scores, and yes, they don’t shed away from using that torture!
