Tips for Surviving The First Day of Your College

Yes you’ve finally grown up and all set to enter the “Real World” as they say. It is not as scary as you make it up in your mind, just know that there are hundred other students just like you entering the college for the first time and feeling as alienated as you are. Just take a deep breath and you’ll make it through this day.

1. Ragging is not as life threatning!

Chill! It doesn’t even happen in most of the Delhi colleges and even if it does be a fuccha and you’ll be a known figure among all your seniors, If orientation is a way of knowing about your college, ragging is for your seniors to know more about their juniors. Also you get to be in their position next year and have all that fun! KA-Ching!

2. Dress Comfortably

Don’t try to over-do in an attempt to fit in, it makes people think you are desperate. But, also don’t show up wearing baggy clothes, because except it or not people are judgmental!

3. Switch on your Social mode

You may have to transform yourself into a social bee and interact with as many people as possible. It may seem as a big task for the introverts, but try and get out of your bubble for a day, you’ll find it to be a confidence boosting activity and making contacts helps a lot in future.

4. Acquaint with your seniors

Befriending seniors can go a long way in your college life. They have been there and done that, so their advice is the best you can get, be it for joinig societies or regarding your classes.

5. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t make friends

Normally everybody just move in a herd for first few days, it will give you time to contemplate your classmates and choose the best match for you, sounds very match-making type-ish, but that’s the truth.

6. Explore your campus

It’s always good to know about your campus before-hand like good restaurants, hang out places as such.

7. Remember everybody feels as lost as you are

Every first year feels the same nervousness on their first day, so know that you are not going through all the anxiety alone. You can put these anxiety to use by discussing about it with your new mates and you already have a topic to discuss about!- Your welcome!

8. Get yourself enrolled in Societies/Clubs

It’s actually an enriching channel to make new friends and also you get to have hands-on experience of many corporate-like work which will look really good in your CV.
