Two of the country’s biggest cities- Delhi and Mumbai, are different from each other in many ways. We draw comparison between the two below. How much do you agree with us?
1. Delhi- Bragger.Mumbai- Modest
Delhiites live in the the epicentre of all political power, so using influential names to get away with things or for getting their work done comes naturally to them. “Janta hai mera Baap kaun hai” is almost synonymous with Delhiites who brag their political connections as if they dine with the Prime Minister everyday. Mumbaikars comparatively are more subdued in this matter.
2.Delhi- Loud. Mumbai- Aloof
Delhiites give themselves away by their loud behaviour, swear words and brashness and the rural hinterlands of Punjab, Haryana, UP and Rajasthan reflect in their genes. Whereas Mumbaikars are more sly, aloof and to some extent, cold and unresponsive to strangers and casual acquaintances.
3. Delhi- Gol Gappe, Papri Chaat. Mumbai- Pani Puri, Vada Pao
In both the cities, food is like a religion, necessity, joy and an addiction, enjoyed as one of the most important aspects of everyday life. Street food in Delhi is Papri Chaat, Golgappas and Aloo Tikkis. Whereas in Mumbai, street food is more of Pani Puri, Vada Pao and Bhel Puri.
4. Delhi- Metro. Mumbai-Local Train
Mumbai too may have got its metro, but it’s network in the city is not as large as the Delhi Metro. Local trains still seem to be their thing.
5. Delhi- Seasons. Mumbai-Monsoons
Yeah, Mumbai has monsoons and humidity, but Delhi gets to enjoy every aspect of this beautiful nature, from spring to the fall, from bonfires to Ice-bars.
6. Delhi- Wider roads. Mumbai- Narrower roads
Once somebody said poking at Mumbai that Mumbai highways are narrower than Delhi’s footpaths! Delhi is amazing with its broad-tree lined avenues.
7. Delhi- Road rage. Mumbai- The problem is less severe
In Delhi, road rage is almost as common as traffic jams. Cutting into someone’s lane or brushing against another car can even cost you your life in Delhi. Road rage is kinda rare phenomenon in Mumbai, where people have become used to traffic snarls and don’t mind as much if someone bumps into them.
8. Delhi- Green . Mumbai- Not so Green
As per a study by the Asian Green City Index, New Delhi proudly ranks 10th in Asia’s 22 greenest metropolises whereas Mumbai ranks 21st. The difference between the two is of exact 11 ranks.
9. Delhi- Unfriendly for women. Mumbai- Safer for women
The abusive behaviour, eve teasing, sexual harassment and violence against women is taken for granted in Delhi, making it a unfriendly city for women. On the other hand, women feel safer in Mumbai. They can move around and travel alone without much worry even at night.
10. Delhi- Hill stations. Mumbai- Beaches
Weekend getaways for Delhi mean Shimla, Mussoorie and Manali. Mumbai has it’s own beaches and other weekend getaways for them are Goa, Mahabaleshwar and Pune.
