Punjabis are the funniest, jolliest and the liveliest creatures on this earth and their weddings are nothing short of an extravaganza. If you have ever been to a Punjabi wedding, you are surely going to agree with me on this. Here are a few little things without which a Punjabi wedding is incomplete!

1. Pomp and Show

Punjabi weddings are known for their pomposity and splendor. Everything is jazzy, glittery and showy- from the decoration to the wedding couple to the invitees!

2. Dance

On listening to any sort of music playing around, a Punjabi’s limbs start moving and shaking themselves. And when the occasion is their cousin’s or friend’s wedding, bringing a Punjabi down from the dance floor is as hard as climbing Everest!

3. Dhol

Dhol is a part and parcel of a Punjabi wedding. You may bring the best DJ in the town, but dhol is just as important as important as the wedding couple themselves for the wedding. Baraati’s dancing like crazy on the arrival of baraat is the best part of a Punjabi wedding!

4. Burraaaahh!!

Punjabi Boliyan or couplets sung to call kins one by one to shake a leg on the dhol beats is the most traditional Punjabi wedding thing. Baari barsi khatan gaya si…Burraaah!!

5. Gaudily Clad Aunties

Punjabi aunties add to pomp and show of the wedding with their glittery ‘zari wali’ salwar-kameez as much as the lights and other floral decorations. Not to forget the gold jewelry!

6. Chicken

Every variety of chicken, Desi or Pardesi, is present at a Punjabi wedding- Tandoori, Butter Chicken, Chili Chicken or Afghani!

7. Alcohol

Yeah, it’s true that not every Punjabi drinks alcohol, but the ones who drink make it up for the non-drinkers too.

8. Sukhbir’s “Taare Gin Gin”

It is not less than 10-20 times that this song by Sukhbir is played by the DJ, on which people dance and sing “Ohohohoho,..Ishq tera tadpaave. Such a typical Punjabi wedding thing!

9. A Drunk Uncle dancing

This happens in every Punjabi wedding. One uncle- groom’s Chacha ji, Mama ji or Nana ji- steps on the dance floor after gulping alcohol and sets the stage on fire with his quirky dance moves and keeps everyone in splits!
