Are You happy At Your Current Job?

Not everyone is happy with their current job. Either they believe it has nothing to do with their dream job, others feel suffocating at it, others yet believe it to be sucking life away from them. Bottom line, most people for one reason or another aren’t happy at work.

Being happy at work of course depends on a variety of factors some beyond your control anyway. But you can change some and make work time more tolerable and you a little less grouchy.

Identify what makes you sad

Work on changing it. If it’s a colleague that drives you crazy, avoid him, or tell him. Softly.

Be persistent in changing it, within legal, sane and practical means that is. If its after all unchangeable realize it’s not going to change. Deal with it. I mean you’re a grown-up!

It's an attitude really.

Make small improvements that will make the difference. Bring flowers to work every morning, find fun games to play during work hours (that do not affect your productivity of course!)

Make it a happier place to spend 1/3 of your days there. Make your office space more you, bring photos, things that make you relax and feel at ease there.

Surround yourself with positivity. This includes workmates you really like, that they’re fun to be around, take life as it comes and do not whine half the time.

Also stop doing things that make you unhappy or in any manner produce negativity in the  work environment. It’s for your own good anyway! There surely must be something that you love about your job. Make it the highlight of your day.

Make breaks worthwhile. Spending your 45-minute break on your desktop reading email or pinning wedding pictures doesn’t count as a break. Get outside and breathe a little. It will change your mood so much you won’t believe it. Do something worthwhile, be it a hobby, seeing a friend living nearby  etc. Breaks should be breaks away  from office not breaks from work.

Improve communication. Studies confirm that work unhappiness stems mostly from lack of communication between coworkers and employees-employers. If something’s unfair speak up. Own up to your mistakes and be a collaborative, fun-to-work with co-worker. Others will become fun soon too.

If all else fails, pretend happiness. Its half the way of actually being happy. Get the attitude to conquer the feeling.

What are your little tricks for making your not-so-ideal job be less intolerable? Any tips for making it a more happy-go-lucky place?
