There are three major eye makeup areas – lid, crease, liner – so why so many brushes? Is it a cardinal sin against beauty to use the same brush to apply shadow to the eyelid and the brow bone? Well no probably not, but each brush is designed with a specific purpose in mind. This is a breakdown of seven eye makeup brushes.

1. Large Shadow Brush

Features a rounded tip, ideal for covering the lower eyelid, highlighting the brow bone, and blending multiple eye shadow shades.

2. Precision Shadow Brush

This natural-bristled brush easily applies shadow for precise shade placement and evenly sweeps shadow across the eyelid. The improved hair quality allows for better pigment pickup.

3. Blending shadow brush

Softens eye contour colors, diffuses shadow pigments and helps set concealer to perfection. Better tapered edge allows for softer blending.

4. Precision Liner Brush

The perfect angled tip of the brush provides exact placement for concentrated color right up to the lash line. Use to apply eyeliner for perfect color application.

5. Angled Liner Brush

A firm, slanted eyeliner brush with a tapered point for perfect application.

6. Smudger Brush

Use this flat, rounded smudger to diffuse eyeliner, softening the look. Almodovar prefers this tool for diffusing eye pencil–more so than a precision shadow brush.
